Question 1

What is Motus AI (HeyMotus)?

Accepted Answer

Motus AI (found at heymotus.com) is the native autonomous AI operating system agent built for macOS. Unlike passive chatbots that only generate text, Motus perceives your screen, reasons about desktop UI, and autonomously executes end-to-end workflows across your browser, Slack, Spotify, Calendar, Terminal, and more.

Question 2

How is Motus different from Siri or standard chat assistants?

Accepted Answer

Standard chat assistants like ChatGPT or Claude operate entirely inside browser windows. Siri is limited to predefined system shortcuts. Motus is a true computer-use agent that opens applications, navigates web portals, extracts spreadsheet data, drafts messages in Slack, and verifies outputs directly on your Mac desktop.

Question 3

Why is it called HeyMotus?

Accepted Answer

The name Motus comes from the Latin word for motion and movement. HeyMotus (heymotus.com) is the domain because you say 'Hey Motus' to activate voice commands through the Voice Notch interface at the top of your screen.

Question 4

Is Motus AI a startup or an established company?

Accepted Answer

Motus AI, Inc. is an early-stage technology company building the future of autonomous desktop computing, currently in public beta with an active community of early adopters.

Question 5

Who built Motus AI?

Accepted Answer

Motus was founded and built by two teenage brothers and software engineers, Moyo and Bolu. Growing up fascinated by what computers could do, they started writing software in 2020 and shipped real systems. Recognizing that despite enormous AI advancements, humans were still stuck manually clicking, typing, and switching windows, they built Motus: an autonomous AI computer operator designed to understand what people want and actually use the computer to get it done.

Question 6

How does Motus work on Mac?

Accepted Answer

Motus combines native macOS Accessibility APIs with high-frequency screen vision models to understand what is on your display in real time. You give Motus a goal via voice or keyboard, and it autonomously plans actions, clicks buttons, types text, and verifies the result.

Question 7

What macOS apps does Motus support?

Accepted Answer

Motus supports virtually any macOS application through screen perception and UI automation, including Google Chrome, Safari, Arc, Slack, Spotify, Apple Calendar, Apple Mail, Finder, Terminal, iTerm, VS Code, Cursor, Notion, Linear, Figma, Excel, Google Sheets, and more.

Question 8

What is Voice Notch and Ghost Cursor?

Accepted Answer

Voice Notch is a persistent, always-listening voice interface near the notch area of your Mac display. Ghost Cursor is the visual guidance system: a semi-transparent overlay cursor that shows you exactly what Motus is about to click, letting you confirm or redirect in real time.

Question 9

Does Motus AI work offline?

Accepted Answer

Motus requires an internet connection for its core reasoning engine. However, certain fast-path actions like app launching, local Spotify controls, and basic system commands can execute locally with minimal latency.

Question 10

What macOS versions are supported?

Accepted Answer

Motus AI supports macOS 12 Monterey, macOS 13 Ventura, macOS 14 Sonoma, and macOS 15 Sequoia on both Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4) and Intel processors.

Question 11

Is Motus AI free to use?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Motus offers a generous Free tier with 100 credits each month for local actions and desktop automations at no cost. Paid plans include Basic ($10/mo, 1000 credits) and Business ($25/mo, 3000 credits).

Question 12

What are credits and how do they work?

Accepted Answer

Credits are the usage currency for Motus AI actions. Simple actions cost 1 credit. Complex multi-step workflows involving vision analysis and multi-app orchestration may consume 5-15 credits depending on complexity.

Question 13

Can I cancel or change my Motus AI plan anytime?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Motus AI plans are month-to-month with no lock-in contracts. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel from your account dashboard at any time.

Question 14

How do I download Motus AI or join the waitlist?

Accepted Answer

You can request early access and download Motus directly from heymotus.com/early-access. We offer native builds for Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and Intel Macs. Installation takes under a minute.

Question 15

What permissions does Motus need on my Mac?

Accepted Answer

Motus requires macOS Accessibility permission to interact with UI elements on your behalf. It also optionally uses Screen Recording permission for enhanced vision capabilities. All processing is sent to secure cloud endpoints.

Question 16

How do I give Motus a task?

Accepted Answer

There are three ways: (1) Voice—say 'Hey Motus' or press the Voice Notch hotkey, (2) Keyboard—use the command palette shortcut to type your instruction, (3) Quick Actions—trigger pre-configured automations from the menu bar.

Question 17

Is my data safe with Motus AI?

Accepted Answer

Privacy is foundational to Motus. Screen frames are processed in real time and never persisted on servers. All API communication is encrypted via TLS 1.3. Motus does not train AI models on your personal data.

Question 18

Can Motus access my passwords or sensitive information?

Accepted Answer

Motus operates at the UI level and sees what is visually displayed on screen. It does not have direct access to Keychain, stored passwords, or encrypted filesystem data. If a password field is masked, Motus sees the mask, not the underlying credentials.
